AHL-Experienced Yuen Joins Gladiators

DULUTH, Ga. - The Gladiators announced that they have acquired defenseman Zachary Yuen from the Wheeling Nailers in exchange for defenseman Tristin Llewellyn on Saturday.

Yuen, 21, has played in 27 games for the Nailers this season, scoring seven points (three goals, four assists) and a +1 rating. Last season Yuen (pronounced YOU-in) played in 48 games for the Orlando Solar Bears notching 12 points on a goal on 11 assists, with a +9 plus-minus. For his play in Orlando, Yuen was recalled to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL for three games at the end of the season.

The Vancouver native, a fourth round (#119 overall) draft selection by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, played for over four seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. In 255 regular season games played with the Americans, Yuen scored 30 goals and 87 assists, going along with a +93 rating.

Llewellyn, 25, was in his second go-around with the Gladiators this season - playing in 32 games with four goals and 11 assists. The native of Ann Arbor, Michigan played in 27 games for the Gladiators back in 2012-13. Llewellyn played in his 200th professional game on January 8th of this year.

Yuen will make his debut with the Gladiators tonight as the team hosts the Florida Everblades for the second straight night at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. It is the first $5 Frenzy of the year, where fans can purchase Gladiators team scarves for just $5. It will also be Faith Night at The Arena, featuring a special concert in the second intermission.
