Thunder Fall Just Shy of Colorado

January 24, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif - The Stockton Thunder returned to the ice Friday night after 12-days off but unfortunately were not able to pull out a win as they fell to the Colorado Eagles 4-2 at Stockton Arena. Tyler Maxwell and Austin Levi were the two goal scorers for the Thunder, but a few bounces went against the Thunder and a couple defensive breakdowns early on were enough to propel the Eagles past the Thunder. The loss is the Thunder's ninth-straight, a new franchise long for such a streak. The Thunder will look to end the streak and perhaps start a new one on the winning side Saturday night as they will again face the Eagles in the second game of this weekend's three-in-three with Colorado.

Quotes

"It just went off our guys skate and past our goalie. I don't think anybody really saw where it was going and it was just a bad bounce that we can't do much about." - Head Coach Rich Kromm on the "own goal" scored in the second off a Thunder player's skate.

"We want to better defensively and I think we were very solid tonight. Two of their goals came off bad bounces and I think for the most part we did a good job containing them. They have a strong group up front that is pretty talented and I think we did a good job against them all night." - Coach Kromm on his team's defensive effort tonight.

"There were a lot of solid individual efforts made on that play. Austin [Levi] kept the play alive by keeping the puck in the zone and then he broke up another chance to get it out and was able to be rewarded with the goal at the end of the sequence." - Coach Kromm on Austin Levi's third period goal.

"[Vinny Scarsella] was really good. He's smart, makes good plays, works hard and skates really well. I know a lot of people thought he and [Ryan] Hayes are the same player but they're not. Hayes is a gifted offensive goal scorer and Vinny plays a a solid game all over the ice and skate really well." - Coach Kromm on his first look at the Thunder's newest player Vinny Scarsella
