DULUTH, Ga. - For the second straight game, the Gladiators (13-21-1-1) defeated the division-leading Florida Everblades by scoring seven goals. Last night it was by a 7-5 margin, thanks to five goals in the third period - a season high - and a hat trick from Greg Carey for the second time this season. The two teams will play once again at The Arena at Gwinnett Center tonight at 7:05 p.m.
It will be the first $5 Frenzy of the season as the Gladiators will offer team scarves to the fans for just $5. In addition, it will also be Faith Night at The Arena, featuring a faith concert in the second intermission. Former Atlanta Flames goaltender Dan Bouchard will be in attendance tonight to drop the ceremonial first puck and sign autographs in the first intermission.
Glads Notes:
They Have the Edge: Gwinnett has taken the last two games against the Everblades, outscoring them 14 to 7. Florida has only lost seven games in regulation this season; three of them have come against the Gladiators (11/8 at GWT, 1/17 at FLA, 1/23 at GWT).
Hats Off: Greg Carey notched his second hat trick of the season in the Gladiators win last night. His previous hat trick came on November 9th against the South Carolina Stingrays, when he scored four goals and achieved a natural hat trick in the win. With his three goal performance last night, Carey became the fourth Gladiator in team history to have two hat tricks in the same season (Kevin Doell - 03-04, Brad Schell - 05-06, and Colton Fretter - 06-07)
Gladiators Ahoy: Three players currently on the Gladiators roster have been assigned from their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates- James Melindy, Dyson Stevenson, and Greg Carey - and seven more - Joel Hanley (POR), Dan O'Donoghue (POR), Louis Domingue (POR), Jordon Southorn (POR), Mike Lee (POR), Bretton Stamler (HFD), and Casey Pierro-Zabotel (NOR) - have spent time in the AHL this year.
Milestones: Garry Nunn played in his 250th professional and ECHL game last night ... Casey Pierro-Zabotel is three points away from his 300th professional point. He also had his 100th assist in a Gwinnett uniform last night ... Geoff Paukovich is two goals from his 50th as a pro, and two points away from his 100th ECHL point.
