Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Malcolm Gwilliam ["GWIHLL ahm"] to an Amateur Tryout agreement. Also, in transactions previously completed, (i) the trade of goaltender Josh Johnson to the Alaska Aces of the ECHL was voided by the league pursuant to Rule 62 (c); (ii) Johnson was returned to the Royals from the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL; and (iii) he has been released by the team. In other transactions previously completed, the Royals also (i) released defenseman Chris Clark; and (ii) signed goaltender Bryan Troyan yesterday as an Emergency Back-Up Goaltender. Troyan was released by the team today.

Gwilliam (6'3/216) (25), who hails from Kamloops, British Columbia, recently completed what proved to be a six year career at Michigan Tech University. This past season, Gwilliam, who served as the Huskies' team captain, led the team with sixteen assists and was tied for the team lead with thirty points (14g-16a) in 35 games. Gwilliam returned to Michigan Tech's line-up this season after being awarded his second medical red-shirt by the NCAA nine games into the 2008-09 season, when it was discovered that he had a heart condition that required surgical correction. Gwilliam's first medical redshirt was necessitated in his second year with the team as the result of a knee injury. In 154 total games at Michigan Tech, Gwilliam scored thirty-one goals, assisted on forty-one others (seventy-two points) and picked up 116 penalty minutes.

Johnson, a third year pro from Esko, Minnesota, was loaned to the Monarchs on March 12, 2010, and his rights were traded to Alaska on March 13. He was acquired by the Royals on February 25, 2010 from the Bakersfield Condors for future considerations. In four games for Reading, he compiled a record of 2-2-0-0 with a 4.45 goals against average and a.878 save percentage. Overall in the ECHL this year, Johnson is 5-3-0-0-0 with a 3.77 goals against average and.877 save percentage. Clark, a third year pro from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, played fourteen games with the Royals and registered one assist and sixty penalty minutes.

The Royals return to action tomorrow (Thursday, March 18, 2010 @ 7:05 pm) when the Charlotte Checkers visit the Sovereign Center for the final time this year-at least during the regular season. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will begin at 6:35 pm.
