Condors Send Reign Packing, 6-3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (33-25-4-1, 71pts) erased a two-goal deficit to skate past the Ontario Reign (27-27-3-6, 63pts) 6-3 on St. Patrick's Day in front of 3,235 fans at Rabobank Arena on Wednesday night. RW Ryan Menei scored twice and C Adam Naglich tallied two goals and an assist to help the Condors inch closer to a Kelly Cup playoff berth.

Ontario jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, scoring in the opening minute on their first shot of the game, and adding a power play goal close to 11 minutes later. C Jon Francisco and RW Jon Rheault gave the visitors the lead. Condors Naglich put Bakersfield on the board with his 12th of the season, on a breakaway, to make it 2-1 after one.

The Condors came out firing in the middle frame, peppering Reign G Curtis Darling with 17 shots on goal, and scored twice to erase the deficit and take the lead. Menei scored two power play markers at 13:41 and 16:19, to give him 16 on the season. Bakersfield G Timo Pielmeier saw just four shots in the period, and held the lead.

Bakersfield put two more home on Darling in the third to chase him from the pipes. Naglich notched his second of the night at :44 and RW Nick Kemp blasted home his eighth of the season at 8:03. Francisco cut into the lead with his second of the night, but the Condors iced the game with an empty-netter from F Stephane Goulet in the final minute.

Notes from the Nest: Condors capture the 13-game season series against the Reign 8-5-0... C Adam Naglich had the first multi-goal game of his pro career... F Andrew Ianiero extended his point streak to seven games (1g-8a)... D Sasha Pokulok recorded two power play assists in his return to Bakersfield. Pokulok last played for the Condors on Feb. 21... D Mark Mitera also made his return to Condorstown after being reassigned to Abbotsford (AHL) on Jan. 30... Shots: BAK- 41, ONT- 22...Bakersfield went 2-for-5 on the power play, while Ontario went 1-for-4... Three Stars: 1. Ryan Menei (BAK); 2. Adam Naglich (BAK); 3. Nick Kemp (BAK).

ON THE DOCKET: The Condors remain on home ice for a pair of games against the Victoria Salmon Kings Friday and Saturday night. Friday is Andrew Ianiero Bobblehead Night, sponsored by KGET-TV 17 and Goodwill Industries. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under get a bobblehead of the third-highest scorer in Condors history. Doors open at 6 p.m., the puck drops at 7 p.m.

Saturday is the conclusion of the 6th annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News and KUZZ 107.9 and the Bakersfield Californian. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m. for the Condors alumni game, starting at 5 p.m., and featuring former Condors players such as Paul Willett, Glen Mears, Paul Rosebush, Jamie Cooke, Scott Hay and others.
