
Reign Unlucky Against Condors, 6-3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, were defeated by the Bakersfield Condors, 6-3, on Wednesday evening in front of 3,235 fans at Rabobank Arena. The game marked the last regular season meeting between the two division rivals.
Ontario got the scoring started when center Jon Francisco shot the puck past Bakersfield net minder Timo Pielmeier. Defensemen Chad Starling and Andrew Martens picked up the assists on the sharp angle goal that gave the Reign a 1-0 lead 57 seconds into the game.
The Reign took a 2-0 lead at 11:53 in the first period when right wing Jon Rheault scored a power play goal on a turnover by the Condors. Martens picked up his second assist of the night while forward Greg Hogeboom also assisted on the play.
Bakersfield answered back when center Adam Naglich scored a break away goal on Ontario goaltender Curtis Darling at 13:27 in the first period. Right wing Nick Kemp assisted on the play and brought the score to 2-1 Reign.
In the second period, Bakersfield right wing Ryan Menei scored a power play goal when he took an extremely sharp angle shot that passed Darling at 13:41. Forward Andrew Ianiero and defenseman Sasha Pokulok assisted on the game tying goal.
Menei scored his second goal of the night when the Condors were on a 5-on-3 man advantage at 16:19 in the second period. Defenseman Eric Regan pocketed an assist while Pokulok picked up his second assist of the night.
In the third period, the Condors took a two goal lead at when Naglich scored his second goal of the game. Naglich got the unassisted goal when the Condors headed into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1. Naglich shot went off Ontario defenseman Patrick Mullen's skate and into the Reign net.
About eight minutes into the third, Curtis Darling miss played the puck and gave it to Naglich. Kemp found the loose puck and put it past Darling to give Bakersfield a 5-2 lead. Ontario pulled Curtis Darling from the net and replaced him with Mike Zacharias.
Ontario answered back with a short handed goal from Francisco at 12:59. Francisco scored his second goal of the night when he got the pass from Jon Rheault that beat Timo Pielmeier. The goal brought the Reign within two goals with about seven minutes to go in the third.
The Reign tried to come back with some great opportunities in the remaining minutes in the third. Ontario net minder Mike Zacharias was pulled for the extra skater and Bakersfield was able to find the empty net. Right wing Stephane Goulet put the puck in the empty net and sealed the win for Bakersfield with a final score of Condors 6, Reign 3.

Saturday, March 20th (7:00 p.m) is Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by the University of La Verne. The Reign players will be wearing specialty military jerseys that will be auctioned off immediately following the game, with proceeds benefitting the University of La Verne scholarship program.
