Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - In a Wednesday night contest, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder squared off at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA. The Salmon Kings started Matt Keetley in net, while the Thunder countered with Andrew Perugini.

The Thunder opened the scoring just 44 seconds after puck drop. Colin Hemingway took a shot from the right faceoff circle that beat Keetley across his body but bounced off the post and right to Oren Eizenman who poked in his 19th goal of the season. Stockton doubled their lead to 2-0 at the 12:39 mark off Bret Hemingway's ninth marker of the year. Defenseman Daryl Marcoux fired a shot from the high slot that Keetley kicked away. The rebound found an open Hemingway who buried the puck into the net past a diving Victoria netminder. The home side took their 2-0 advantage into the first intermission.

Victoria cut into the Stockton lead and registered their first goal of the game just 42 seconds into the middle period. Chad Painchaud fed the puck from along the left wing boards down into the corner for Randall Gelech who quickly moved the rubber in front of the net to Jimmy Sharrow who snapped home his 12th goal of the season past Perugini. Stockton regained their two-goal advantage just 11 seconds later after Chris D'Alvise took a breakaway pass from Marcoux and wristed a quick shot past Keetley. D'Alvise's tally was his team-leading 27th of the campaign. The Salmon Kings pulled back within one goal at the six minute mark. Dirk Southern moved down the right wing on a partial breakaway and put a shot on net that was saved by Perugini. The rebound bounced out to a trailing Painchaud who put his 28th goal of the season into an open cage. The second period ended with Stockton holding a 3-2 lead.

Stockton quickly took a 4-2 lead just 1:04 into the third period when Matt Robinson collected an errant puck that bounced off the boards behind Keetley back in front of the net and fired in his 25th goal of the season around a sprawling Salmon Kings' goaltender. Igor Gonglasky gave the Thunder a 5-2 lead just 54 seconds later when he tipped a Garet Hunt shot through the pads of Keetley for his 13th marker of the year. Colin Hemingway recorded the 6-2 marker at the 11:57 mark, before D'Alvise rounded out the scoring for the game at 19:26 with his second marker of the game and 28th of the season.

Victoria went 0/1=0.0% on the power play while Stockton was 0/3=0.0%. The Thunder outshot the Salmon Kings 37-24.
