Royals 2002-03 Complete Schedule Approved

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals embark on their sophomore season with a home opener against John Brophy and the Wheeling Nailers. The East Coast Hockey League approved the 2002-03 schedule today. The Royals again will play a 72-game schedule with 36 games at home in the Sovereign Center and 36 games on the road. Sixty-eight of the 72 games will be against Northern Conference opponents, with 47 battles coming in the Northeast Division.

The Royals playoff chances will depend on how the club fares in the Northeast Division. The Royals play 47 games in the division, facing off against the Trenton Titans (10), Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies (9), Richmond Renegades (8), Roanoke Express (8), Greensboro Generals (6), and the Charlotte Checkers (6). The Royals 21 games against the Northwest Division breakdown in this way; Wheeling Nailers (6), Johnstown Chiefs (5), Lexington franchise (3), Peoria Rivermen (2), Toledo Storm (2), Cincinnati Cyclones (2), Dayton Bombers (1).

The Royals will host four games against the Southern Conference with all four games pitting Reading against two Southeast Division foes. On November 22 and 23 the Royals will welcome the 2000-01 Kelly Cup Champion, South Carolina Stingrays to the Sovereign Center. Last season's Kelly Cup Champs, the Greenville Grrrowl invade "The Jungle" on January 10 and 11.

- Royals longest home stand is 3 games (several times)
- Royals longest road stand is 5 games (12/27/02-1/5/03)
- Eight of the final 13 games of the regular season are on the road
- Five of the first nine games of the regular season are at home (Season opening three game home stand)
