July 18, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals 2002-2003 schedule has been released by the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) today. The Generals' fourth season will kick off with a five-game road trip starting on Friday, October 11 against the league's newest franchise in Lexington, Kentucky. The home opener doesn't come until two weeks after the season begins, when the Generals host the Reading Royals at 7:30 on Friday, October 25.
Among the highlights of the Generals' schedule are home games on three holidays, Halloween, Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. There are a total of 19 weekend (Friday and Saturday) home games, with an additional ten home games on Thursday. Starting this season, all Thursday home games will be "Thirsty Thursday" nights, with the Greensboro Coliseum selling dollar drafts all game.
The Generals don't have a homestand longer than four games all season, but they do have three long road trips, including a franchise long eight game trek in March which will span from Trenton, New Jersey to Florida. Start times for home games will be 7:00 Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 on Friday and Saturday. Road game times have not been announced at this time. Generals' promotional and giveaway dates are also yet to be determined.
The Generals schedule is well balanced, playing 17 of the league's 27 teams. Greensboro doesn't play anyone more than eight times, with the Richmond Renegades and in-state rival Charlotte Checkers being their most common opponent. The Generals play every team in their division at least six times. Teams from the Southeast division will also be a familiar foe this year, with the Generals facing all seven teams from that division at least once. Greensboro has a total of nine games against teams from the Northwest division, with five of those coming against the new Lexington squad. The Generals do not face anyone from the Southwest division.
The division the Generals play in remains the same as last season, with the Checkers, the Renegades, the Roanoke Express, the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, the Reading Royals, and the Trenton Titans. There will be 27 teams playing for the Kelly Cup this year. Regrettably, the New Orleans Brass suspended operations today as they continue their efforts to find a venue to play in.
Generals season tickets for the 2002-03 campaign for all 36 home games at the Greensboro Coliseum is only $199.00 through the end of July. The offer is good for all seats except On-Ice and Foxhole tickets, which have their own special price of $249.00 and $299.00 respectively. To take advantage of the offer, all season tickets must be purchased by July 31. Along with the price of the season tickets, the Generals are offering free season parking passes for the first 500 season ticket accounts.
