Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (35-42) narrowly extended their season-long win-streak to five games with a 3-2 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers (35-41) on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond.

Continuing to build upon a solid June stretch, Express starter LHP Michael Roth (3-1, 3.63) earned the win after surrendering just two runs, only one of which was earned, over 5.2 innings. Roth has pitched through the fifth or later in each of his five starts this month, carrying a 4.03 ERA over that span. Omaha LHP Jake Kalish (2-2, 3.71) was handed the loss for giving up each of Round Rock's three runs on the night in his fourth and final frame on the mound.

Both offenses were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Round Rock finally broke through for three runs. LF Scott Heineman and 3B Andy Ibanez climbed aboard on a walk and a single before DH Willie Calhoun laced a two-run double down the right-field line, putting the E-Train ahead 2-0.

After SS Cliff Pennington followed up the two-bagger with a single, RF Hunter Cole drove a base hit to right that allowed Calhoun to score and make it 3-0 Round Rock.

The Storm Chasers lineup struggled to crack Roth's code until the top of the fifth when 2B Ramon Torres crushed a solo homer to deep left field. Omaha inched even closer to a tie in the next frame as rehabbing Kansas City Royals RF Jorge Bonifacio reached base on a singe and later scored when C Cam Gallagher lined a base hit to centerfield.

Working with little margin for error at 3-2, the E-Train bullpen shutout the Storm Chasers' bats through the final 4.1 innings of play to bring this one home.

RHP Deolis Guerra replaced Roth with runners on the corners and two outs in the sixth. After forcing a pop out to end the threat, Guerra returned to the mound in the seventh and breezed through a 1-2-3 frame while picking up a strikeout. RHP Ricky Rodriguez then held Omaha hitless in the eighth before RHP R.J. Alvarez slammed the door shut in the ninth, earning his PCL-leading 14th save of the year.

Round Rock will shoot for six wins in a row tomorrow night at Dell Diamond. Express RHP Adrian Sampson (3-3, 6.00) scheduled to face Storm Chasers RHP Glenn Sparkman (4-0, 3.89). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CDT. For more information on the Express, visit RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter!
