Today's Game: After Monday's series opener was postponed due to unplayable field conditions stemming from recent rains at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, the Oklahoma City Dodgers open a four-game series tonight against the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 p.m. The Dodgers are 27-9 in OKC this season and own the best home winning percentage among full-season teams in the Minors (.750).
Last Game: Omaha hit three home runs, including two during a five-run fifth inning, leading the way to an 8-0 win over the Dodgers Sunday afternoon at Werner Park. The Storm Chasers started the scoring in the second inning when Billy Burns hit a RBI double with two outs to give Omaha a 1-0 lead. Donnie Dewees added to the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, making it 3-0. The home run barrage continued in the fifth inning, as seven straight Storm Chasers reached base at one point to take an 8-0 lead. Ryan O'Hearn hit a solo homer, and after Omaha loaded the bases, Humberto Arteaga cleared the bases with a grand slam. Former OKC Dodgers pitcher Trevor Oaks kept the Dodgers scoreless over six innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits - all singles - and only had one runner reach scoring position. Oaks (4-3) notched a season-high seven strikeouts and issued one walk. Omaha relievers Kevin Lenik and Jake Newberry covered the final three innings to finish Omaha's fifth shutout of the season. Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Pill (2-2) allowed eight runs and 10 hits over 4.1 innings in the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Brock Stewart (1-0) returns from his sixth stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers to make his seventh start for OKC...He most recently pitched June 19 for the Los Angeles Dodgers after being added as the team's 26th man for a road doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs. He was charged with the loss in Game 2, allowing a run and two hits in the 10th inning of the Cubs' 2-1 walk-off win...His last appearance with OKC was June 13 against Salt Lake in OKC, allowing two runs and four hits over 3.0 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts...While with OKC this season, Stewart owns a 1.18 WHIP and has held opponents to a .222 batting average, including 6-for-34 with runners on. The team is 4-2 in his starts...Stewart split last season between LAD and OKC while battling injury. With OKC, he went 0-1 with a 3.12 ERA over five starts with 25 K's and three walks...In 17 games (four starts) with LAD, Stewart posted a 3.41 ERA with 29 K's and 19 walks over 34.1 IP...Stewart advanced quickly through the Dodgers system in 2016, starting the season in High-A and ascending to the Majors to make his debut June 29 at Milwaukee. He was named the Dodgers' 2016 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year and to Baseball America's Minor League All-Star Team...Tonight is his second start of the season, and second career appearance, against the Sounds. He tossed three shutout innings May 17 against the Sounds in OKC, allowing three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Against the Sounds: 2018: 5-3 2017: 11-5 All-time: 181-147 At OKC: 95-68 The Dodgers and Sounds meet for their third series of the season and second in OKC...The Sounds and Dodgers split an abbreviated series at First Tennessee Park, 2-2, May 25-28, as the series finale was postponed to July 21 due to inclement weather. Each of the final three games were decided by one-run margins and the teams combined to score just 18 runs total in the series...The Dodgers won the first series of the season between the teams May 17-20 in Bricktown, 3-1. The Dodgers outscored the Sounds, 32-15, and outhit Nashville, 50-30, in the four-game set, batting .350 as a team. OKC's pitching staff racked up 47 strikeouts in the series...In 2017, the Dodgers won the season series, 11-5, posting at least 10 wins against the Sounds for the third straight year. OKC outscored the Sounds, 85-54, and Dodgers pitchers racked up 158 strikeouts in 16 meetings for an average of 9.9 per game...Since 2015, the Dodgers are 37-19 against the Sounds, including 19-9 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Home Cooking: Although the Dodgers have lost their last two home games, they own the best home winning percentage in the Minors (.750) among full-season teams with a 27-9 record at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. They have the third-most home wins behind Low-A Bowling Green (28-10) and Double-A Corpus Christi (28-12)...Of their 27 home wins, the Dodgers have trailed at some point in 13 games, and trailed in the eighth inning or later seven times. They have four comeback wins after trailing by three or more runs...The Dodgers have held an opponent to one or no runs in 10 of the 36 games...OKC is slashing .309/.369/.483 at home, scoring an average of 5.8 runs per game on an average of 10.6 hits. The team has scored eight-plus runs 11 times and collected 14 or more hits in eight games. 0'd in Omaha: The Dodgers were shut out Sunday afternoon in Omaha, 8-0, marking their third shutout loss of the season, and all three have come on the road...Their eight-run margin of defeat was their largest of the season and largest since Aug. 20, 2017 when the Dodgers lost, 12-2, in Colorado Springs...On Sunday, the team tallied five singles on the day and only had one runner reach scoring position, with none after the first inning. No OKC runner advanced to third base in the game. It was the fourth time this season the team didn't produce an extra-base hit.
Along the RÃ-os Grande: Edwin RÃ-os picked up another hit Sunday to extend his current hitting streak to seven games - his longest hitting streak of the season. He has now hit safely in eight consecutive starts, going 12-for-29 (.414) with seven RBI and six runs scored...RÃ-os has 25 hits through 20 games this month, which ranks second on the club. He paces the Dodgers with four homers and 14 runs scored this month and he ranks second on the team with 16 RBI in June.
Teach Me How to Dougie: Alex Verdugo was held without a hit Sunday for just the third time this month. He has still hit safely in 27 of his last 30 games, going 47-for-124 (.379) with 17 runs scored and 15 RBI. The 30-game stretch includes an 11-game and a 13-game hitting streak. His 13-game hitting streak June 3-18 is tied with Rocky Gale for the longest Dodger hitting streak this season...Verdugo paces the Dodgers with 68 hits despite playing in just 49 games, and his .340 average ranks seventh in the PCL...His 31 hits in June are tied for second in the league, trailing Fresno's Kyle Tucker (36)...Nine of his last 12 hits have gone for extra bases (seven doubles, two homers)...On Sunday, Verdugo struck out twice in one game for the first time since May 14 at Colorado Springs.
Give Me Some Mora: Angelo Mora went 1-for-3 Sunday, and he has reached base seven times in his last three games. He ranks tied for second in the PCL with a .493 OBP since rejoining OKC June 3...Mora has hit safely in 13 of 16 games with this month, batting .404 (23x57) with a team-best 17 RBI...In his first 14 games with OKC in April-May, Mora batted .189 with one walk. This month he's drawn 11 walks.
False Starts: The bullpen had to cover 3.2 innings Sunday, and through 21 games this month, relievers have thrown 99.2 innings compared to 89.1 innings thrown by starting pitchers. The starters have combined for a 5.34 ERA, .293 BAA and 1.65 WHIP in June.
