Redbirds Downed Late in Series Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Brewers) scored all eight of their runs from the fifth inning onward and upended the Memphis Redbirds (46-31) in the series opener Monday night in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Memphis led 2-0 until the Sky Sox scored four in the bottom of the fifth, another in the seventh, and three more in the eighth.

Jake Woodford made his Triple-A debut and tossed 4.0 shutout innings, before being touched for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, which would end up being his last inning of work. He struck out five and threw 61 strikes out of 96 pitches in his 5.0 innings of action.

Adolis Garcia drove in the first two Memphis runs, and he finished 2-for-4 with the two RBI. Rangel Ravelo and Luke Voit also had two hits apiece for the Redbirds. Ravelo is now 11-for-14 (.786) in his last four games. Wilfredo Tovar stole his fourth base in the last two games.

Colorado Springs had 10 hits in the ballgame, six of which went for extra bases.

The Redbirds are on the road for nine games at Colorado Springs and Iowa, continuing tomorrow at 7:40 p.m. (CT), before returning to AutoZone Park on July 4 for the 4th of July Celebration, presented by AutoZone.
