New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Odrisamer Despaigne pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, and the New Orleans Baby Cakes ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday night.

After starting pitcher Pablo Lopez was removed only five outs into the game, Despaigne (2-1) came on to retire seven of the first eight batters he faced, and each of the last seven. The right-hander bounced back from a rocky outing in Memphis on Friday to limit Iowa to two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Despaigne also reached on an error to lead off the third inning, which led to the game's first run when Eric Campbell drilled a two-out double, and added a single to spark a two-run rally in the fifth. The Baby Cakes strung together four hits in the frame, highlighted by Garrett Cooper's two-run single to extend the lead to 3-0.

Campbell recorded three hits, and Cooper added two in the fifth game of his Major League rehab assignment.

The I-Cubs finally broke through against Tyler Kinley in the eighth, when Wynton Bernard tripled into the left field corner and scored on a two-out single by Chesny Young.

Javy Guerra fanned a pair in a flawless ninth to record his fourth save and extend his scoreless streak with New Orleans to 20 innings dating back to last season. Guerra has 17 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings since coming off the disabled list.

Jen-Ho Tseng (2-9) scattered eight hits in six innings and was charged with three runs - two earned - in suffering his league-high ninth defeat.

The 'Cakes have evened the series heading into Wednesday's matinee. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
