Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - Shortstop Adam Rosales went 2-for-4 with a run scored and drove in two of the team's five runs, helping the Cats to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Rainiers. The win is Sacramento's fourth in a row.

Tacoma wasted no time scoring, putting a run on the board in the top of the first inning. After Rainier designated hitter Mike Carp reached first on a fielder's choice then stole second base, Sacramento-local and Jesuit High School graduate Vinnie Catricala drove him in with a single to center field.

In the bottom of the second inning, Outfielder Michael Taylor doubled to center and eventually scored on a single from Rosales, tying the game at one. In the very next inning, designated hitter Brandon Moss collected an RBI on a bases loaded, sacrifice-fly to right field, scoring outfielder Jermaine Mitchell. After three, the Cats had a 2-1 lead.

Neither team was able to score until the bottom of the eighth. Moss reached with a single to right field then scored on a double from catcher Derek Norris. The very next batter, Rosales, then doubled home Norris. With third baseman Wes Timmons at the plate, Rainier right fielder Chih-Hsien Chiang let a pop-fly glance off his glove scoring Rosales, giving Sacramento the 5-1 lead. River Cats lefty reliever Erick Threets threw a scoreless ninth to end the game and give Sacramento its fourth-straight victory.

Sacramento starter, right-handed pitcher Bruce Billings, who was just transferred from Double-A Midland, went three innings allowing one run, four hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Lefty reliever Carlos Hernandez also lasted three innings and did not allow a run with four strikeouts, earning the win.

Taylor went 2-for-3 with a run scored. The two-hit performance was Taylor's sixth multi-hit game of the year, raising his batting average to .429.

Rainier's right-handed starter Mauricio Robles went five innings, giving up two runs, three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in the losing effort. Righty reliever Chance Ruffin gave up three runs, two earned, in one inning pitched.

Game two of the series is set for 12:05 on Wednesday at Raley Field. River Cats right-hander Brad Peacock (1-1, 1.50 ERA) will start opposite Rainiers righty Anthony Vasquez (2-0, 1.38 ERA).
