Long Ball Sends RedHawks to Wednesday Win, 7-5

Nashville, Tenn. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (9-4) hit three home runs and sent Dallas Keuchel to his third winning decision with a 7-5 win over the Nashville Sounds (4-9) before 4,898 Wednesday afternoon at Greer Stadium.

Reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week Dallas Keuchel (3-0) allowed his first two runs of the season with five this three walks and three strikeouts in a winning decision. Keuchel induced eight groundouts with three fly outs in a seven inning appearance. His ERA climbed to 0.90 (2 ER/20.0 IP), still the league-best among starters. Nashville starter Mark Rogers (0-1) allowed two runs and three hits in three innings in a losing decision, his first outings since two wrist surgeries cut his 2011 season short. Jose Valdez (3) allowed an unearned run in the ninth inning for the save.

Oklahoma City opened the scoring in the second inning when Justin Ruggiano belted an opposite field leadoff home run for a 1-0 score. The RedHawks made it 2-0 in the third inning as J.B. Shuck singled, moved to second on a fielder's choice, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

Nashville countered in the bottom of the third inning when Edwin Maysonet hit a sacrifice fly and scored Eric Farris for a 2-1 game.

Oklahoma City belted reliever Seth McClung for three runs in the fifth inning. Brian Bixler led off the inning with a home run for a 3-1 score. After a Fernando Martinez single, Scott Moore hit a two-run home run to right field for a 5-1 advantage.

The Sounds scored again against Keuchel in the bottom of the fifth inning when Farris reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a Logan Schafer double for a 5-2 game.

The RedHawks added two more runs against McClung in the sixth. Bixler tripled with one out and scored on a Martinez single for a 6-2 lead. Brett Wallace later drove in Martinez on a groundout for a 7-2 lead.

Nashville rallied against the RedHawks bullpen. In the eighth inning, following a two-out walk, Brooks Conrad hit a two-run home run off reliever Juan Abreu for a 7-4 score.

The Sounds added a fifth and final run in the ninth when Sean Halton reached on a fielding error, moved to third on a single and scored on a fielder's choice for a 7-5 final.

The RedHawks and Sounds will make up Tuesday's rained out game as part of a doubleheader, featuring two seven inning games, Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Oklahoma City RH Jordan Lyles will face Nashville RH Josh Butler in game one. Game two will feature RedHawks RH Sergio Perez and Sounds RH Brian Baker.
