Storm Chasers Shut out Express

Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Round Rock, TX - Ryan Verdugo and two relievers combined on a four-hitter as Omaha blanked Round Rock, 4-0, Wednesday night in the second of a four-game set at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers improved to 10-4 with their fifth win in six tries against the Express this season.

Omaha, held to a season-low two runs in Tuesday's loss, scored three times in the first inning with only one hit and the benefit of some sloppy play. Round Rock third baseman Tommy Mendonca committed errors on consecutive ground balls that allowed two runs to score and Greg Reynolds uncorked a wild pitch that brought Kevin Kouzmanoff across the plate.

Clint Robinson's lead off long ball in the sixth, his third of the road trip, provided the other run for the visitors, who managed just five hits. That was the only earned run allowed over seven innings by Reynolds, who absorbed the loss after yielding five hits, walking one and striking out one.

Verdugo gave up only one hit, a first inning double by Brad Nelson, while walking four and fanning eight, the most for a Storm Chasers starter this season, en route to his first Triple-A victory. The southpaw's only challenge in his longest outing of the year was in the first inning when he struck out Mike Bianucci and Joey Butler with runners at second and third and one out.

Roman Colon took over and allowed two hits and struck out three over 2 2/3 frames before Francisely Bueno closed the door in the ninth. The hosts did not advance a runner past second base after the first inning.

The series continues Thursday night with Omaha southpaw Mike Montgomery making the start against Round Rock left-hander Zach Jackson. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
