Rainiers Slip Past Sacramento in Extras
April 18, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Tacoma Rainiers turned on the offense late and topped the Sacramento River Cats 2-1 in extra innings at Raley Field on Wednesday.
With the score tied at 1-1, outfielder Trayvon Robinson hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th that scored Luis Rodriguez and gave Tacoma all the offense needed to snap the club's three-game losing skid.
The late-inning heroics were made possible thanks to a one-run Rainiers rally in the seventh. Trailing the River Cats 1-0, right-hander Brad Peacock threw a wild pitch with Brandon Bantz at the plate, clearing the way for Chih-Hsien Chiang to score from third and even the score at 1-1.
Rainiers starter Forrest Snow turned in his strongest outing of the season in the contest. The right-hander allowed just one run - Michael Taylor's homer in the second inning - on three hits and fanned eight batters over 6.0 innings.
Relievers Sean Henn and Josh Kinney combined to toss 4.0 shutout innings and fanned five, with Henn picking up his first win of the year and Kinney collecting his first save.
The outfielder Chiang recorded three of the Rainiers seven hits on Wednesday, and infielder Luis Rodriguez turned in his third multi-hit effort over his last five games after going 2-for-3 with a double.
The Rainiers (6-8) take the field for the third game of the club's four-game series at Sacramento (10-4) at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, April 19. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (2-0, 1.38) looks to stretch his winning streak to three games in the contest against former Rainiers left-hander Fabio Castro (1-0, 3.00).
