Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ (February 6, 2008) - The Trenton Devils announced today that forward Joe Rooney has been loaned by the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League to Trenton. The move returns one of the Devils' top offensive threats.

The 22 year-old was one of Trenton's leading scorers when he was called up to Lowell. Rooney scored 16 points (6g, 10a) in just 23 games at the ECHL level. A four point performance (2g, 2a) in five games sparked the jump for the forward to the AHL.

Rooney earned the call-up at the same time as Trevor Kell. The two Trenton alumni immediately impressed with Lowell, and Rooney started in several games. The Canton, MA native scored three goals and racked up six penalty minutes in 11 games with his home-state team.

Standing at 5-10 and weighing 170 pounds, Rooney played for Boston College the past four years. Last year with B.C., he scored 42 points (16g, 26a) in 42 games.

The Trenton Devils have seen a lot of player movement with their AHL affiliate; Rooney is one of eight players to be loaned or assigned from Lowell this year. Netminders Dave Caruso and Jason Smith, defensemen Sean Zimmerman and Zach Tarkir, and forwards Kell, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and Benoit Mondou have also skated for both squads this season. Zimmerman, Mondou and Letourneau-Leblond remain with the 'AAA' franchise.

The Trenton Devils will be going on a three-game road trip this weekend but return to host the American Conference-leading Texas Wildcatters at Sovereign Bank Arena Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00pm. Full and partial ticket plans for the 2007-08 season are available by calling 609-599-9500.
