Reid Trade Voided, Phoenix Lands Two Defensemen
February 6, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, have announced that their trade Monday with the Dayton Bombers for defenseman Ryan Reid has been voided by the ECHL after Reid failed a mandatory entrance physical.
Phoenix has instead acquired former RoadRunners' defenseman Taylor Christie and rookie defenseman Tom Sawatske from the Bombers in exchange for center Scott Kelman and defenseman Corey LeClair.
Christie, 25, currently leads all Bombers defensemen with five goals and ranks second among Dayton blue-liners with 20 points through 41 games. The Toronto, Ontario native and third-year professional collected four goals and a career high 16 assists in 69 games last season between the Utah Grizzlies and Reading Royals. A member of the inaugural 2005-06 RoadRunners' roster, Christie compiled totals of three goals, 11 points, and 88 penalty minutes in 69 games in his first stint with Phoenix. He was a four-year letter winner at Bowling Green State University from 2001-05.
Sawatske, 24, notched two goals and five points in 39 games with the Bombers. The rookie from Duluth, Minn. was an alternate captain in 2006-07 at Notre Dame University, and led the Fighting Irish to their first ever Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season and playoff championship following a record-breaking 31-6-3 campaign. Sawatske transferred to Notre Dame after playing two seasons at the University of Wisconsin from 2002-04. He registered 10 goals, 26 points, and 131 penalty minutes in 127 career collegiate games
Kelman leaves the RoadRunners with seven goals and 25 points in 32 games, while LeClair totaled two goals and 15 points in 45 contests.
The RoadRunners conclude their five-game home-stand at 7:11 p.m. Thursday as they finish a two-game series with the Las Vegas Wranglers at US Airways Center.
Great seats are still available beginning as low as $8 and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (480) 784-4444, purchasing online at ticketmaster.com or visiting the US Airways Center Box Office. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2007-08 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
