Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets picked up their seventh straight win with a 4-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, WA.
Prior to puck drop, the Chiefs retired former forward and current NHLer Tyler Johnson's number nine.
It was the final meeting between the two this season, with Kelowna taking the season series 2-1-0-0.
Overage forward Mark Liwiski found the back of the net twice for the Rockets, picking up first star honours. Talyn Boyko made 24 saves on 25 shots.
In on a two-on-one, Mark Liwiski (12) put the Rockets on the board first just under five minutes into the second period. Three minutes later Nolan Flamand (6), who was returning from a lower-body injury that held him out of the lineup for the last month, gave the Rockets a two-goal cushion. Washington Capitals prospect and Spokane captain Bear Hughes (14) cut the Rockets lead in half.
Liwiski (13) and Pavel Novak (19) scored 26 seconds apart late in the third to ice the game.
Kelowna's record improves to 23-10-1-3, they currently sit second in the BC Division with 50 points.
