Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - For the second consecutive game, Taylor Gauthier posted a shutout and James Stefan scored twice as the Hawks cruised past the Americans 6-0. Gauthier stopped all 23 shots that came his way and has now stopped 68 of his last 69 shots faced.

In total, five different Winterhawks recorded multiple points in tonight's win, including Cross Hanas' third straight multi-point performance. The Winterhawks have earned at least a point in 15 consecutive games (14-0-0-1) and boast eight wins in a row.

Picking up where they left off after Sunday's 8-0 drubbing of the Americans, the Winterhawks raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Stefan picked up his first of the game on a breakaway, receiving a long stretch pass from Luca Cagnoni before racing in and rifling a shot between the legs of Thomas Suchanek. Gabe Klassen doubled his team's lead just over 90 seconds later, after Hanas picked off a breakout pass and set up Klassen in the slot, who then sent Suchanek the wrong way and tucked the puck h0me for his 17th of the season.

The second verse was the same as the first in this tilt, as Portland added two more tallies in the second period. Stefan's second of the game came 5:54 into the middle frame on the power play as he deflected Clay Hanus' point shot for his team-best 22nd goal of the year. With his assist on the play, Hanus has points in eight straight contests. After that, it was Hanas' turn to get in on the fun, notching his 15th of the year as he potted a loose rebound from Kurtis Smythe's long bomb past the outstretched leg of Suchanek.

Carrying their stellar play into the final frame, the Winterhawks made it 5-0 less than a minute into the third as Marcus Nguyen ripped home his ninth of the year. Tyson Kozak carried the puck over the blue line before dishing to Hanas, who wired a pass across the top of the faceoff circles for Nguyen. Capping off another explosive outing, Kyle Chyzowski found twine for a second game in a row as he hammered home a one-timer from the right circle. Cagnoni earned an assist on the play, extending his point streak to three games and marking his first multi-point game since Jan. 16.

Portland next takes the ice in Spokane tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
