Rochester Americans News Release
Game Notes:
The Rochester Americans (10-7-0-0, 20 points) host the Binghamton Senators tonight at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The game will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and webcast on the B2 Networks. The contest is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.
Promotions:
The first 10,000 fans will receive a 1987 Calder Cup Champion team photo, courtesy of USA Payroll, Conolly Printing and 95.1 The Fox.
Head-to-Head:
The game tonight is the second of eight meetings between the two teams. In the first game, the Amerks earned a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Sens on November 5th at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Rochester trails the all-time series with a record of 8-12-3.
Amerks Notes:
Rochester remains in third place in the North Division, two points behind second-place Manitoba. Rochester continues to lead the league in power-play percentage, despite going 0-for-13 the past two games. The Amerks have converted on 26 percent of their chances (32 of 121). Defenseman Martin Lojek made his Rochester debut on Sunday at Hershey. Matt Hendricks recorded his first point/assist as an Amerk on Friday night in a 5-2 win over Syracuse. The win over the Crunch extended the team's home winning streak to three games. Jason Pominville is tied for sixth in the AHL with 21 points in 16 games. His 16 goals lead the league and his nine power-play tallies are tied for the AHL lead.
Player Moves:
The Amerks will play the game tonight without goalie Michael Leighton, who was recalled by the Buffalo Sabres. Leighton was promoted to the NHL after Mika Noronen was injured in last night's game against the New York Rangers. This season in Rochester, Leighton is 5-5 with a 2.81 goals-against average. In a related move, the Amerks signed goalie Len Perno. The Rochester native played in two games with the Amerks during the 1996-97 season. The Oswego State product also played one game with the Binghamton Rangers that same season. He has also made stops in Reno (WCHL), Knoxville (ECHL) and Utica (CoHL).
All-Time Team Voting:
Fan balloting for the Rochester Americans 50th Anniversary Team starting lineup has begun. Fans can choose three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie for the All-Time Team, with the results being announced in February. Voting will be conducted online at amerks.com and in the arena at the Amerks customer service table at The Blue Cross Arena during home games. Voting concludes on Wednesday, February 1st.
Senators Notes:
Binghamton (5-9-1-1, 12 points) enters the game in sixth place in the East Division. The Senators will host the Syracuse Crunch on Thanksgiving Day at 6:00 p.m. to continue their holiday tradition. There have been 31 Thanksgiving Day games played in Binghamton since professional hockey first came to the Broome County Arena in 1973. Last week, Binghamton won two of three games as goaltender Kelly Guard earned his first two professional shutouts, blanking Toronto 3-0 on Friday and Springfield 1-0 on Sunday.
Next Game:
After Thanksgiving, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins waddle into The Blue Cross Arena for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Pens have been on a roll to start the season, going 16-0-1-0 in 17 games to lead the AHL with 33 points. They are also a perfect 9-0-0-0 on the road, and lead the AHL in both scoring (4.59 goals per game) and defense (1.94 goals allowed per game). The 7:35 p.m. contest will be televised tape delayed on Saturday, November 26th at 12:30 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. The game will also be broadcast on WBER 90.5-FM and webcast on the B2 Networks. The game is also available to on-line viewers on the B2 Networks for a $6.00 fee.
