
Road Warriors Light up Solar Bears 9-3

Greenville, SC: The Road Warriors scored six in the third period to secure a 9-3 win over the Orlando Solar Bears. The nine goals were the most ever in the team's three year history.
The game started off with a bang as Brendan Connolly began a four-goal night just 22 seconds in. 1:22 later Darick Ste-Marie tied the game at one with his first of the year. Levi Nelson scored his first as a Road Warrior to put Greenville back up by and goal and took the lead for good. The first few minutes brought three goals and multiple hits with great energy in the building as the highest attendance of 4,001 of the season was brought to the EquilifeMD Rink at the BI-LO Center. No other goals were scored in the first but the intensity continued throughout the period.
The second period was an even sequence as the teams traded goals. Brandon Wong kicked off the scoring quickly with his 18th of the year just 2:13 in. Dan Gendur brought the game back within one as he scored his team leading 12th goal of the year. The teams went into the second intermission with a 3-2 Greenville lead.
Once again the Road Warriors started off a period with a quick goal. Wong scored his second of the game 1:28 into the third period. This began the Road Warriors romp in the six-goal third period; the largest goal total in a period this year. Connolly scored his 14th of the year, just 1:40 afterwards to give Greenville a 5-2 lead. Danny Hobbs scored on the power play to go along with three assists for his first multi-point effort this season. Connolly scored his second hat trick of the year with 8:24 left in regulation to bring the score 7-2. Lee Baldwin also scored for the Road Warriors as well as Connolly again to finish the scoring for Greenville. Ste-Marie scored in between in the final Greenville goals for his second of the game. Hannu Toivonen was pulled after the eighth goal and took the loss by stopping only 23 of 31 shots. John Curry allowed one goal on five shots. Scott Stajcer was the winning goaltender with 23 saves.
The Road Warriors face the Orlando Solar Bears again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a white replica jersey presented by Scene on 7 and WSSL 100.5. Tickets to the games start as low as $9 and are available at the BI-LO Center or online at ticketmaster.com!
