Stingrays Topple Titans 3-1

Trenton, N.J. - The South Carolina Stingrays (17-18-1-3) rolled past the Trenton Titans (14-16-3-2) 3-1 at the Sun National Bank Center Friday night.

Stingrays forward Matt Beca broke a scoreless tie with his first tally as a Stingray at 14:15 of the second period rifling a shot under the blocker of Titans goaltender Niko Hovinen (L, 17 saves on 19 shots) from the middle of the right-wing circle. Forwards Phil Mangan and Robby Dee picked up assists.

Titans team captain Andy Bohmbach tied the game on the power play at 11:07 of the final period slipping a shot under the stick of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski (W, 19 saves on 20 shots). Former Titan Ryan Hayes put the Stingrays up for good at 16:30 with his sixth goal of the season from defenseman Scooter Vaughan and forward Andrew Cherniwchan. Forward Andrew Sackrison completed the game scoring with an empty-net unassisted shorthanded goal at 19:59. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play while the Titans went 1-for-6.

The Stingrays wrap up their season series against the Titans tomorrow, Saturday, January 12 at 7:05 p.m. at the Sun National Bank Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Tuesday, January 15 to battle the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. Grab two tickets for the price of one at the Coliseum Box Office!
