Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced the team has signed free agent right wing Matt Ambroz (AM-brohs). Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ambroz has joined the Thunder on its road trip this week in Colorado and will be available to suit up tonight at 6:05 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) against the Colorado Eagles at Budweiser Events Center.

"Matt's a player who we've targeted as the lockout was rumored to end," said Thomas. "His toughness has always been admired during his time in our league. He carries terrific offensive accolades from college and we feel that his potential could be a great fit based on our team philosophy."

Ambroz, 25, comes to Stockton as a former member of a Western Conference rival - the Alaska Aces - after skating in 49 career games with the club. He collected 88 penalty minutes and 10 points in his Aces career and suited up in one playoff game during Alaska's run to the Kelly Cup title in 2010-11.

The 6-foot-4 and 210 pound forward skated in one game for Alaska this season and followed up with three games with the Fort Worth Brahmas of the Central Hockey League, collecting two assists and a +1 rating.

The native of New Prague, Minn. also skated in 154 career games with the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA), notching 89 points and 248 penalty minutes. He finished his career ranking in the top ten goal scoring list and led the program with 17 goals and six power play goals in 39 games as a 2010-11 senior.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans for 2012-13 are on sale now.
