Peoria Rivermen News Release

NEWS AND NOTES

Meeting your schedule-maker.Sunday's game in Grand Rapids kicked off the toughest stretch of the Rivermen 2009-10 schedule. Over the stretch of seven days (Dec. 27 - Jan. 2) the Rivermen will have played five games in five different cities, in two different countries. Their only home game is the final game of three games in three nights in which Peoria will have to fly back from Toronto that morning.

December to Remember. The final month of 2009 has been kind to the Rivermen so far. They are 8-2-0 with three games remaining. Over that time they collected their longest winning-streak of the season at five games (Dec. 9-19) and have already surpassed their 12-game point total from November (12). During the month, the Rivermen are averaging 3.60 goals per game while allowing just 2.10.

The past is the past.Pascal Pelletier's goal on Sunday was his first with the Rivermen since being acquired in a trade from Columbus on Dec. 8. The goal came in his seventh game with the team and snapped career-long goal drought at 21 games, dating back to Oct. 30.

Talbot's turnaround.November 18 sparked a turnaround for Julian Talbot. In the 15 games since being scratched from the lineup against Houston, Talbot has collected 11 points (8g, 3a). He had just one goal and three assists in his first 15 games of the year. Over the month of December, he has 10 points (7g, 3a) in 10 games and is a plus-6.

Special Teams wash. The Rivermen penalty kill has allowed 10 goals over the past nine games and at least one in nine straight contests. During that same time, Peoria has scored eight power-play goals of their own. Surprisingly, the Rivermen are 2-1-1 when allowing two or more PPG in a game.

Go Fletch...Justin Fletcher returned to the lineup on Sunday for the first time in 25 games. He suffered multiple broken bones in his hand during a game on Oct. 17 in Rockford.

Offensively minded...The Rivermen were the only team in the American Hockey League that were led in points by a defenseman at the Christmas break. Jonas Junland had been atop the teams' scoring list since the first week of the season before he was passed by Lars Eller on Sunday with his 23rd point.
