Lake Erie's Darren Haydar Named Reebok/AHL Player Of The Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.... The American Hockey League announced today that Lake Erie Monsters right wing Darren Haydar has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Dec. 27, 2009. In three games, Haydar scored five goals and added three assists for eight points.

On Tuesday night vs. Rochester, Haydar scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and recorded an assist as Lake Erie posted a 6-2 victory over the Americans. On Saturday, Haydar's two early goals set the tone and his second-period assist helped seal a 4-2 win over Toronto. And on Sunday, Haydar scored twice more and notched another assist as the Monsters traveled to Ricoh Coliseum and shut out the Marlies, 7-0, in the back end of a home-and-home set.

In recognition of his achievement, Haydar will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monsters home game.

Haydar is tied for third in the AHL with 15 goals and tied for ninth with 31 points in 32 games for Lake Erie this season, including 17 points in his last 11 contests. An eighth-year pro from Milton, Ont., Haydar is the AHL's career scoring leader among active players with 216 goals and 351 assists for 567 points in 528 games. The two-time Calder Cup champion and former league MVP and scoring champion is in his first season with the Monsters after signing as a free agent with Colorado on July 6, 2009.
