Mississippi RiverKings News Release
LOVELAND, CO --- A back and forth third period finished back in the Mississippi RiverKings' court when Nathan Lutz scored a power play goal with 6:28 remaining for a 4-3 win over the Colorado Eagles on Saturday, November 13th in Loveland, Colorado.
Mississippi moves to 5-6-0 for the season and evens their record on a three-game road trip to 1-1-0 going into a Tuesday night re-match with the Rapid City Rush in South Dakota.
Chris Richards gave the RiverKings a 1-0 first intermission lead by deflecting a shot from Lutz just 53 seconds into the game. Matt Summers also assisted on the goal, Richards' fifth of the season.
Colorado tied the game in the second period on the first of two goals from Kip Workman just over two minutes into the frame.
But, in the third period, five goals were scored, including three by the RiverKings and capped by the game-winner by Lutz.
Ryan Kretzer opened the scoring ar 3:20 for a 2-1 lead, assisted by Matt Boyd and Lutz.
Colorado tied the game at 2-2 on Workman's second goal, but Darrell Stoddard shot one from the right win for a 3-2 lead at 11:29, assisted by Boyd.
The Eagles knotted the game again at 3-3 when Braden Desmet notched his first goal of the year, but a hooking penalty to Workman set up the power play chance that resulted in Lutz' game-winning heroics. His drive from the left side found the back of the net, assisted by Derek Landmesser and Richards for a 4-3 lead and the eventual outcome.
Goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy (1-0-0) won his first CHL game with a 31-save, three-goal performance. Colorado net minder Andrew Penner stopped 15, but allowed four goals in taking the loss (3-2-0).
Mississippi was out shot 34-19 in the game, but scored once in four power play chances. Colorado finished 0-for-6 on the power play.
The RiverKings finish this road trip with a Tuesday night game in Rapid City against the Rush, starting at 7:35 PM Central time. An Away Game Watch Party will take place at the Southaven Buffalo Wild Wings, where the CHL-TV broadcast will be shown.
