Point Earned In Shootout Against Bees

November 13, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Texas took home a point Saturday night in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Killer Bees at the NYTEX Sports Centre placing them just two points behind Rio Grande Valley in the standings with a game in hand.

It was a fast paced first period with limited whistles to start things against the Killer Bees, but daylight broke at the 12:11 mark when Texas forward Chad Woollard raced from center ice and charged in front of Juliano Pagliero for one of his signature shots. The trickling puck ultimately made its way to the back of the net, and with the raise of his arms, in true Woollard celebratory fashion, put Texas up 1-0.

Texas' struggling powerplay was given a treat in the form of a 5-on-3 advantage early in the middle frame, but the fifth ranked Rio penalty killing unit was able to keep it a one goal game. Midway in the period Bees newest forward Ryan McLeod tied the game beating Kevin Beech in net on the twentieth shot faced. Minutes later the Brahmas found themselves in the same man advantage predicament, but this time Calin Wild converted for the 2-1 lead, ending the Brahmas powerplay goal drought.

A powerplay goal by Bee's captain Zak McClellan evened the score in the third but two minutes later a speeding Mick Lawrence came in from the faceoff circle to Pagliero's gloveside and fired off a shot to regain the one goal lead. Tomas Klempa, Rio's leading goal scorer tacked on his seventh goal of the season sending the game into overtime and the eventual sudden death shootout where he tallied the game winner.

* Tonight marked Chad Woollard's 300th game as a member of the Brahmas. Woollard was with the franchise from 2000-2005 and re-signed with the Brahmas in the offseason.

The Brahmas hit the road for a South Texas road trip next weekend beginning in Laredo Friday and concluding Saturday in Rio Grande Valley; both games are 7:30 pm starts and can be viewed on CHL-TV. On Tuesday a visit will be made to their west Texas foes, Odessa before they return to the NYTEX Sports Centre Wednesday, November 24 for a pre-Thanksgiving faceoff to take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Game time is set for 7 pm.

On Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27 the NYTEX Sports Centre hosts their "Military Appreciation Nights" against Laredo and Bossier-Shreveport. During the games, the Brahmas will be donning special military themed jerseys to be put up for auction immediately following Saturday's game.
