Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - David Rutherford scored twice and added an assist to help the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs roll over the Laredo Bucks 5-1 on "Military Appreciation Night" Saturday at the CenturyTel Center. The Mudbugs have now won three straight games to stand at 10-4-0 this season.

In addition to Rutherford's three points, Justin Aikins had a goal and an assist and Travis Clayton tacked on two helpers. Steven Crampton and Joe Blaznek scored the other two Mudbugs goals as Bossier-Shreveport outshot Laredo 32-20 to improve to 2-0 against the Bucks this season.

The game started with a pair of fights as Brett Smith took on Justin Styffe and Steven Crampton punished Chris Morin with a series of right hands a few minutes later. Laredo's Serge Dube gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead, scoring on their third powerplay of the opening period at 12:21.

With a delayed penalty coming against Laredo a short time later, David Rutherford buried his tenth goal of the season from the high slot to tie the game at one. Crampton then knocked a rebound chance past a diving Torrie Jung to put the ‘Bugs on top 2-1 heading into the second period.

The Mudbugs kept their foots on the gas with two powerplay goals in the second frame, going up 3-1 on Rutherford's league-leading 11th goal of the year off another rebound at 3:23. Later in the period Rutherford set up Justin Aikins on the weak side for a tap-in goal during a 5-on-3 powerplay to put the ‘Bugs on top 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The ‘Bugs surrendered only three shots on goal in the third period to thwart any Laredo comeback attempt and then Clayton set up Blaznek's goal with under two minutes remaining to ice the 5-1 win.

Brian Foster improved to 5-1 this year with the win, making 19 saves. Torrie Jung stopped 27 shots but dropped to 3-3 after his third straight loss. The Mudbugs scored on 2 of 8 powerplay chances while the Bucks finished 1 for 5.

The Mudbugs now have five days off before traveling to South Texas for another weekend series with Rio Grande Valley and Laredo. Bossier-Shreveport will visit the Killer Bees next Friday and the Bucks next Saturday before returning home to host the Missouri Mavericks on Tuesday, November 23 in their next home game.
