ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats (8-9-3-2) scored three first period goals and cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals (7-13-1-4) on Friday night at the Times Union Center.

Just 4:30 into the contest, Pat Dwyer beat Norfolk netminder Karri Ramo to a puck that took a strange bounce off the end boards and tucked it into the net at the right post. The River Rats lead tripled with a pair of quick goals just under ten minutes after Dwyer's tally. Jerome Samson accepted a pass from Jakub Petruzalek on a two-on-one and chipped the puck over Ramo's left leg from the slot at 13:14. Just 18 seconds later, Stefan Chaput found the rebound of a Brett Carson power play point shot and stashed it into the net at 13:32.

Michael Ryan gave Albany a 4-0 lead at 9:21 of the second period after accepting Petruzalek two-on-one pass and beating Ramo from the slot at 9:21.

Norfolk got on the board with a power play tally just over three minutes later. Mathieu Curadeau sent a snap shot from the right faceoff circle that went over the left shoulder of River Rats backstop Daniel Manzato at 12:48.

However, the River Rats tacked on four goals in the third period to quash any Norfolk comeback hopes. Mike Angelidis found his own rebound in the right corner and sent a shot that got past Ramo before he could get his left skate to the post at 5:13. Under a minute later, Dwight Helminen scored on a three-on-one play at 5:06. Angelidis then scored from the slot off a Dwyer feed from the right corner at 11:17. Mike McKenna went between the pipes in relief of Ramo and was greeted with a Nick Dodge goal at 11:56 for an 8-1 final score.

Karri Ramo (40 shots, 33 saves) got the loss. Mike McKenna (3 shots, 2 saves) did not receive a decision. Daniel Manzato (37 shots, 26 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 1-5 on the power play. Albany was 1-4.

The Admirals' five-game road trip will make a stop in Bridgeport tomorrow night as they take on the Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m.

The Admirals will return to Scope next week with contests against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on December 10 and against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on December 12 and 13.
