Head-to-Head: This is the first ever game between the Amerks and the American Hockey League's newest franchise. The Chops enter their inaugural season as the sole affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (3-17-0-2, 8 points) enters the contest coming off their most productive, and perhaps busiest weekend of the season, earning two points in a win over the Lake Erie Monsters and another in a shootout loss to the Toronto Marlies. First-year forward Michal Repik collected two points (1+1) against Toronto to become the top point-getter with a team-high six goals and 13 points, while his seven assists ties him for second. Further, Repik comes into the game currently riding a three-game point streak (2+2). Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison leads the team with eight assists and remains Rochester's top scoring defenseman with 10 points (2+8) overall, good enough for second best on the team. Michael Duco presently ranks ninth in the league and first on the team with 83 penalty minutes (PIM).
Player Moves: Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced yesterday that the Florida Panthers have reassigned defenseman Noah Welch to the Amerks on a conditioning stint. Welch, 26, returns to the AHL for his second stint with the Amerks after registering one goal and one assist to go along with four PIM in 14 games with the Panthers this season. The 6-foot-4, 212-pound native of Brighton, Massachusetts, appeared in 11 games with Rochester during the 2006-07 season, scoring six points (2+4) while adding a pair of assists in six postseason contests with the Amerks. In other news, forward Kenndal McArdle, who recently received his first ever NHL recall, skated 5:26 in his NHL debut in Florida's 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals on December 2nd. Further, Jacob Micflikier earns his second call-up to the Amerks this season from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Micflikier has six points (1+5) in 13 games with the Rochester and 21 points (9+12) in just eight games with the Everblades. Lastly, the Amerks have signed goaltender Mike Brodeur to a 25-game Professional Tryout (PTO). The 25-year-old netminder appeared in eight games with Augusta Lynx of the ECHL to start the season, posting a 2-4-1 record with a 3.02 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
Iowa Notes: Iowa (12-7-1-1, 26 points), playing Game 4 of a season-long seven-game road trip, comes into the game the winners in two of its last three and a recent two-game split with the Manitoba Moose. Andrew Ebbett currently paces Iowa's offense with a team-leading 21 points and 13 assists, while his eight goals ties him for second best. Drew Miller, younger brother of former Amerks goaltender Ryan Miller, leads the team with nine goals. The Chops have two of the AHL's top hard-nosed players in Brennan Evans and Ryan Donally who are presently ranked 8th and 10th in the league with 83 and 74 PIM, respectively. Chops forward Joakim Lindstrom was acquired by the Phoenix Coyotes in a trade that sent defenseman Logan Stephenson to the Anaheim Ducks. Lindstrom has been reassigned to the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL while Stephenson will report to Iowa.
Next Game: The Amerks remain at home on Sunday, December 7th as the Albany River Rates make their first stop to The Blue Cross Arena this season. The first of four scheduled meetings between the non-divisional foes is scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. faceoff and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. Sunday's game falls on Zweigle's Night, where fans can purchase the Zweigle's Family Four Pack of four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $55.00. Please call (585) 454-5335 to order. It's also a RARES Night. The RARES discount is valid for all RARES members by logging onto www.rares.org to review their discounts. For more information call Nathan Snyder at 454-5335 x-3006.
