San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (December 5, 2008) - The San Antonio Rampage showed they weren't a one hit wonder. Friday, the Rampage beat the Western Conference leading Manitoba Moose 4-3 at the AT&T.

San Antonio, looking to build on last night's 3-0 win over Syracuse, got off to a 3-0 against the Moose. After fending off a Moose power play, Alexander Nikulin found defenseman David Schlemko out of the penalty box and ahead of the pack for a breakaway. Schlemko gave the Rampage a 1-0 lead when he went top shelf with a backhander to beat goalie Jonathan Boutin, making his Moose debut, at the twelve minute mark.

Minutes later the Moose, the third ranked penalty killing team in the AHL, looked to strike back. Coming out of a Rampage power play, Manitoba's Michael Grabner went one-on-one with Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman. But Tordjman slid across the crease with a blocker save with 5:41 left in the period keeping the Rampage up 1-0.

Later in the first, center Joel Perrault found David Spina, returning from a 17 game absence, who took it across the blue line, skated between the circles and flipped the puck by Boutin high stick side for a 2-0 lead.

In the second, team captain Jeff Hoggan made it 3-0 after Chad Kolarik centered a pass from behind the net and through the crease where Hoggan punched it home at the 13:04 mark for his eighth goal of the season.

But Manitoba leads the Western Conference for a reason and stormed back in the period with goals from Mark Cullen and Grabner. Cullen tallied his tenth when he swatted home a Zach FitzGerald rebound at 15:27. Then Manitoba's leading assist-man Jason Krog picked up a Rampage turnover and led a two-on-one feeding Grabner at the doorstep cutting the Rampage lead to 3-2.

The Moose tied it up early in the third when Grabner returned the favor to Krog who found an open net and tie game at 3-3 just thirty-six seconds into the period.

San Antonio wouldn't be denied, however. Schlemko pocketed a power-play goal from behind the net as it deflected off Boutin for 4-3 Rampage lead just three minutes later. Schlemko recorded his first two goals of the season.

The new-look Rampage continued to receive dividends from the return of Perrault. The 6-year vet added two more assists; he has three points in two games. Joakim Lindstrom continued his success with San Antonio by adding an assist, his second point in as many games.

Tordjman stopped 19 of 22 shots as San Antonio won back-to-back games for the first time this season in this resilient effort. This Sunday Manitoba returns to the AT&T Center to complete their season series with the Rampage.
