Phantoms To Hold Scott Hartnell Glove And Mitten Toss

December 5, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - It was one of those moments that a player wants to forget as quickly as possible. But now that his glove toss from Tuesday night's game has come and gone and no harm came of it, Flyers winger Scott Hartnell will be helping the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, create some goodwill out of the moment. Hartnell will be lending a Helping Hand to the Phantoms during a great charitable evening on Sunday, December 14th when the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit the Wachovia Spectrum at 5:05 PM.

On that evening, the Phantoms will stage the Scott Hartnell Glove And Mitten Toss. Hartnell will be on hand as he and the Phantoms collect new gloves and mittens for those in need this holiday season. All fans are asked to bring a new pair of gloves or mittens, with the tags still attached, to the game on December 14. New hats and scarves are also acceptable, but again, the tags must be attached.

During the first intermission, fans will be invited to throw their gloves, mittens, and other donations onto the Wachovia Spectrum ice. All gloves and mittens collected will be donated to Operation Warm, which collects coats and related cold-weather clothing for distribution to those who don't have the means to buy the items themselves. Again, the Phantoms request that all items be new, with the tags still attached, as Operation Warm cannot accept items not meeting this standard.

For every new donation a fan brings, they will receive a raffle ticket good for a drawing for two great prizes - an autographed Scott Hartnell jersey or a pair of hockey gloves signed by Hartnell.

Also over the course of the evening, the Phantoms will be holding their ninth annual Helping Hands Auction to benefit the Children's Miracle Network at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The entire Phantoms roster and selected Flyers players used paint to make handprints on 11x17 cards last week. Those cards are being framed and will be auctioned off during the game, with all proceeds benefiting the Children's Miracle Network at CHOP.
