Adirondack Phantoms News Release

PHILADELPHIA - Eight different Phantoms recorded points as Philadelphia earned a 6-3 victory over the visiting Hartford Wolf Pack. Jared Ross registered two goals, an assist and a plus-4 rating while Claude Giroux tallied a goal and two assists with a plus-3 in the team's best offensive performance of the season.

After a scoreless first period, the Phantoms jumped on the board early into the second. At the 1:19 mark, Danny Syvret sent a long outlet pass from his own zone to a streaking Giroux. After beating his man to the puck, Giroux fired a slap shot from the right side that struck the far post. The rebound came right to the stick of a trailing Ross who fired the puck into the wide open net to give Philadelphia the 1-0 lead.

The Wolf Pack tied the score at one at 8:51 of the second period. While working with the man advantage, Michael Sauer fired a shot on Phantoms netminder Scott Munroe. Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau attempted to stuff the rebound in, but it was Artem Ansimov who was able to slide it past Munroe to even the score at 1-1.

It didn't take long for the Phantoms to reclaim the lead, as Ross netted his second goal of the night. At the 10:49 mark of the second period, Matt Clackson stole the puck in the Hartford zone and fed Ross with a pass as he came off the bench. From about ten feet out, Ross wound up and fired a slap shot that beat Wolf Pack goaltender Miika Wiikman through the five-hole to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead.

Philadelphia increased its lead to 3-1 on what may be the goal of the year thus far in the season. Syvret started a series of impressive passes with a cross-ice feed to Giroux from along the right-side boards. Giroux almost immediately sent a no-look, back-door pass to Boyd Kane, who tipped the puck above the glove of Wiikman at the 11:53 mark of the second period.

Hartford cut into the Phantoms lead with just 1:40 left in the second period while once again working on a power play. Brian Fahey entered the Philadelphia zone and slid a pass to Sauer just inside the left side circle. Sauer rifled a slap shot that deflected off Munroe's glove directly to the stick of Brodie DuPont, who was all alone in front. He easily slipped the loose puck into the wide-open net to make the score 3-2.

Later in the period, the Hartford power play struck again when Anisimov scored his second of the night to knot the score at 3-3. As Bobby Sanguinetti crossed the blue line he sent a pass to Patrick Rissmiller, who fired a one-timer from the top of point. Anisimov was able to deflect enough of the puck in front to change its direction and even up the contest 6:43 into the third period.

It didn't take long for the Phantoms to climb back in front as Giroux's patience gave Philadelphia a 4-3 lead at the 9:18 mark of the third period. Off a Ross feed, Kane wristed a shot from the right side through traffic. The long rebound came to Giroux, who waited with the puck until he found enough of a lane to fire the puck above Wiikman's shoulder.

The Phantoms padded their lead 11:51 into the third. Patrick Maroon rifled a slap shot from just above the left circle that was deflected high off the glass. The puck took a Philadelphia rebound back to the stick of Maroon who backhanded a shot in on goal. Wiikman allowed another long rebound to his left, where David Laliberte was crashing the net. He wristed the shot just underneath the crossbar to give the Phantoms a 5-3 lead.

With the Phantoms riding the momentum, Jonathan Matsumoto added a penalty shot goal just two minutes later. Racing in alone on Wiikman, Matsumoto was hauled down from behind immediately signaling the penalty shot call from the referee. On the penalty shot, he deeked to his backhand but pulled it back to his forehand at the last minute to roof the shot above Wiikman's blocker to make the score 6-3. It was Matsumoto's second penalty shot goal of the year. His first was a November 15th tally against Hershey.

Munroe finished the night with 38 saves on 41 shots to secure his ninth win on the season, while Wiikman absorbed the loss with 19 saves on 25 Phantoms chances. Hartford ended up 3-for-4 on the power play, while the Phantoms were scoreless on their lone power play chance. There were just five minors called in the entire game.
