Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The River Cats came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Albuquerque Isotopes 5-4 on Juan Perez's walk-off double. Hunter Pence recorded his first hit of the year and scored twice as the River Cats took Monday's series finale.
Sacramento got on the board first, scoring a run in the fourth as Pence came all the way around from first base on Adam Duvall's double to left. Pence had singled on a hard line drive to left, past the diving Isotopes shortstop Cristhian Adames for his first River Cats hit and first hit of 2015.
The Isotopes took back the lead, scoring four times in the sixth inning. An RBI-double by Jose Rivera made the score 2-1 and chased Sacramento's starter Kevin Correia (0-0, 3.57) from the game with two outs in the inning. Right-hander Curtis Partch came on in relief and surrendered a two-run homer to Angelys Nina as Albuquerque pulled ahead 4-1.
The River Cats started to chip away at the lead, adding two more in their half of the sixth. Pence walked and Travis Ishikawa doubled, scoring Pence and cutting the Isotopes' lead to two. Duvall followed with his second hit of the day, a single to left field that skipped past Albuquerque's Matt McBride. Duvall took second as Ishikawa scored on the play. Sacramento added another in the eighth on Carlos Triunfel's RBI-single, tying the score at four.
The River Cats led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk by shortstop Ehire Adrianza. Juan Perez followed, pulling a 2-2 fastball down the line and into the corner in left. Adrianza scored from first on the play, sliding in well ahead of the throw and sealing the comeback victory.
Pence was 1-for-3 on the afternoon with a walk and two runs scored. Perez was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Duvall ended his afternoon 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Kevin Correia tossed 5 2/3 innings for Sacramento, leaving with two runs in and a runner on second. He allowed 3 runs (all earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 4. Michael Broadway pitched a perfect ninth for the River Cats, striking out the side and picking up the win, his first of the season.
John Lannan (0-1, 5.70) pitched well for the Isotopes, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 in 6 innings. Rex Brothers (1-1, 6.55) took the loss, giving up 1 run on 1 hit and a walk.
The win moves the River Cats back into sole possession of first place in the Pacific Northern, a half-game ahead of the Fresno Grizzlies.
Las Vegas is next for the River Cats as they start a four game series with the 51s tomorrow evening. Austin Fleet (2-2, 4.98) will be on the mound for Sacramento while Las Vegas has yet to announce a starter. After that the team will head to Albuquerque for a rematch with the Isotopes. The River Cats will return to Raley Field on Thursday, May 21, to take on the Memphis Redbirds.
