Today's Games: After getting rained out yesterday, the Oklahoma City Dodgers and Omaha Storm Chasers will play two and finish their series at Werner Park beginning at 11:05 a.m. This is already the third doubleheader of the season for OKC, and second against Omaha.
Last Game: The Dodgers scored six runs in the first inning, providing more than enough offense in a 6-1 victory over Omaha Saturday night at Werner Park. OKC loaded the bases with none out, and O'Koyea Dickson opened the scoring with a RBI single. Buck Britton followed with a bases-loaded walk, and Austin Barnes made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. With two runners on and two outs, Scott Schebler connected on his sixth home run of the season - an opposite-field shot to left field that pushed the lead to 6-0. OKC Dodgers starting pitcher Randy Fontanez (1-0) shut down the Omaha offense, limiting the Storm Chasers to just one hit through a season-high five innings. He allowed no walks with four strikeouts and retired 15 of the 16 batters he faced, including the last nine straight. Omaha broke through in the sixth inning to get on the board. Omaha starting pitcher Christian Binford (1-4) was done in by the rough first inning and took the loss.
Today's Probable Pitchers: Scott Baker (1-1) returns to the Oklahoma City Dodgers to make his fourth PCL start of the season...Baker had his contract selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 26 and made two starts, going 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA (7 ER/11.0 IP). Baker's last outing was on May 2 against Arizona. He allowed four runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings, including two home runs in a no decision. He was designated for assignment the next day...His last game with Oklahoma City was a memorable one, as he came one pitch away from a seven-inning perfect game on April 20 in Iowa. He retired the first 20 batters before Addison Russell singled up the middle on a 0-2 pitch to break up the perfect game and no-hitter. Baker eventually settled for a two-hit shutout, and for his efforts in that game was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 20-26...In his three starts with OKC, Baker has a 1.06 ERA, 0.65 WHIP, and .169 opponent average. He's also owns a 16/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio during his time with OKC...Today marks his second career start against the Storm Chasers, as Baker pitched 7.0 innings against Omaha on April 16, 2014 while with Round Rock. He allowed two runs (one earned) and seven hits, while striking out six in Round Rock's 8-2 win.
Joe Wieland will start game two and make his fifth start of the season for Oklahoma City, including his second against Omaha...Wieland made his L.A. Dodgers debut Wednesday in Milwaukee. He picked up the loss after allowing six runs and six hits over 4.2 innings, including five runs in the first...Wieland is 3-0 with OKC this season, and the Dodgers have won all four of his starts...He enters today with an impressive 22/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 20.0 innings. He also owns a 0.95 WHIP and a 2.25 groundout-to-flyout ratio...Wieland squared off against Omaha at home on April 25. He did not figure in the decision after allowing three runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings.
Against the Storm Chasers: 2015: 5-1 2014: 7-9 All-time: 130-116 In OMA: 64-58
Saturday was the first game in the season series that was not decided by one or two runs...The Dodgers were 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position Saturday after going 6-for-43 (.140) over the first five meetings with Omaha...Oklahoma City won the first series of the season between the teams, 3-1, in Oklahoma City, April 25-28. The four-game series win marked Oklahoma City's first against the Storm Chasers since a road sweep July 16-19, 2012 and their first one at home since June 26-29, 2010...In 2014, Oklahoma City finished 7-9 against Omaha overall, including 4-4 in Werner Park...Oklahoma City is 0-3-1 in the season series over the last four seasons.
Feelin' 22: The Dodgers continued their record-setting start and are the fastest Oklahoma City squad to 22 wins since the team joined the PCL in 1998...OKC is one of four teams in the Minors with at least 22 victories, along with the Low-A Quad Cities River Bandits (24), the High-A Visalia Rawhide (22), and the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats (22).
Road Warriors: With Saturday's victory, the Dodgers improved to 11-3 on the road. They have won the first two games in each of their four road series and won each of the first three games in their previous three road series. The Dodgers have managed the impressive record despite batting just .192 as a team away from OKC.
Top of the Charts: The OKC Dodgers pitching staff leads the league in ERA (2.62), WHIP (1.13), strikeouts (267), and opponent average (.228). In addition, they have allowed the fewest walks (73), hits (215), runs (83), and home runs (14)...Saturday night was the 17th time in the first 29 games the pitching staff allowed two or fewer runs.
Great Scott!: Scott Schebler belted his sixth home run and now leads all players on the current roster. (Chris Heisey is tops overall with seven.) It was his first multi-RBI game of the season, and he became the first OKC Dodger with three RBI in one game since Kiké Hernandez on April 21 at Nashville...Schebler is now 8-for-18 with two homers against Omaha this season.
Darwin's Evolution: Darwin Barney is 7 for his last 13 and is currently on a season-best four-game hitting streak. The recent hot streak has immediately followed a slide during which Barney was just 3-for-32.
Sweeney's Fleet Feet: Darnell Sweeney added to his league lead with his 15th stolen base of the season Saturday. He's now matched his entire output from 2014 with Double-A Chattanooga.
First Impressions: The Dodgers' six-run first inning Saturday night was their highest scoring inning of the season. It's also the third time they scored at least four runs in the first inning of a game this season. The first has been the team's highest yielding inning this season, tallying a total of 27 runs in the opening frame...Also with Saturday's win, the Dodgers improved to 12-0 in games in which they score first. Every other team in the PCL has at least three losses when scoring first this season.
Rain, Rain Go Away: Yesterday marked already the fourth time the Dodgers have been rained out this season, tied with New Orleans for the second-most in the PCL this year. (New Orleans has had an additional game suspended. Iowa leads with five rainouts.) Last season OKC had one rainout all year.
