Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Former Albuquerque Dukes manager Del Crandall will be inducted into the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame prior to this Friday's Albuquerque Isotopes game. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. against the Fresno Grizzlies.
A special pre-game induction ceremony will be held at Isotopes Park prior to Friday's game. PCL President Branch Rickey will join Crandall on field for the ceremony. Special messages from former Albuquerque Dukes that played under Crandall will also be shown on the video board.
Crandall posted a 470-312 (.601) record in six seasons at the Helm of the Dukes from 1978-1983. During that span, he accumulated a remarkable four PCL titles, which ranks third-most for a manager in league history. He also made the playoffs one additional season.
Crandall's 1981 club ranks 11th-best all-time in Minor League Baseball history. The Dukes won a PCL modern-era record 94 games that season and boasted a .712 winning percentage. Sporting News named him the Minor League Manager of the Year that season.
The Southern California native managed 42 games for the Dukes in 1983 before becoming the Seattle Mariners' skipper on June 25.
Crandall, 85, currently resides in Placentia, CA.
