Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa (May 11, 2015) - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox (11-20) pounded out 13 hits on the way to a 13-7 victory over the Iowa Cubs (15-16) in Pacific Coast League action at Principal Park on Monday afternoon.

Iowa right-hander Dallas Beeler came out with a no-decision, allowing six earned runs on six hits and four walks in 4.1 innings of work. Righty Blake Cooper (2-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing four unearned runs in 1.2 innings. It was the first time Cooper had allowed a run of any kind in six appearances.

Rob Wooten (1-0) was the benefactor of the Sky Sox' seven-run eighth inning, earning the win after 2.0 of scoreless relief through the sixth and seventh innings.

In the first at-bat of the game, Pete Orr put Colorado Springs up 1-0 on a lead-off home run that clanged off of the video board. The Sky Sox tacked on two more on Shane Peterson's double in the top of the third inning to go up 3-0.

The I-Cubs got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning on catcher Rafael Lopez's two-RBI-double, then tied the game in the fourth on Junior Lake's RBI-groundout.

The Sky Sox responded with three hits and two walks in the top of the fifth to generate a 6-3 lead, knocking Beeler out of the game.

Iowa would come back to tie it up again, getting a two-out, two-RBI double from John Andreoli before second baseman Javy Baez made it 6-6 on an RBI-single to right.

Despite multiple comeback efforts, the floodgates opened in the big Sky Sox eighth inning.

With one-out in the eighth, Ben Guez reached base on third baseman Arismendy Alcantara's throwing error, leading to four unearned runs charged to Cooper. Guez came around to score on Orr's RBI-single making it 7-6. Cooper uncorked a wild pitch that allowed pinch-hitter Bryan Petersen to score what would be the eventual winning run.

Three batters later, Matt Long hit a three-run home run off of lefty reliever Joe Ortiz, making it 13-6.

Alcantara came into score on a Lopez single in the bottom of the ninth but the rally fell well short.

Lopez led Iowa, going 2-for-4 with a walk while tying a season-high with three RBI. Andreoli swiped three bases for the second time this season, and added a triple, two RBI and two runs. The three steals puts Andreoli at 12 for the season, second in the Pacific Coast League behind Oklahoma City's Darnell Sweeney.

Orr headlined Colorado Spring's offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Shane Peterson went 3-for-6 with three RBI while Long drove in four with a 2-for-5 performance.

The I-Cubs will host the Nashville Sounds, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, in game one of a four-game series on Tuesday. First pitch set for 6:38 p.m. CT at Principal Park. Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada (0-3, 3.25) will take the hill for Iowa versus Sounds lefty Brad Mills (0-4. 5.19). The game can be heard live on AM 940, 104.5 FM, and live-streamed at Iowacubs.com. The On-Deck Circle Pre-game Show will begin 6:10 p.m. CT.
