River Cats Top 'Topes, Win Third Straight 7-3

May 3, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - In their first game against the Albuquerque Isotopes (14-11) Monday night, the Sacramento River (11-14) were able to sustain the success they have become accustomed to recently. Hak-Ju Lee led the way for Sacramento, reaching safely in all four plate appearances with a three-run home run and his second stolen base of the season. Jarrett Parker was able to pick up where he left off from last night's game, hitting his team-leading sixth home run in the eighth inning, his fourth home run in his last eight at-bats.

Tonight's 14-hit performance has been a trend of late for Sacramento. Since their day off, the River Cats offense has totaled 55 runs on 86 hits and raised their team batting average from .250 to .288 after tonight's game. In that five-game span, the River Cats have also hit 10 of their 25 home runs this season. Sacramento now leads the Pacific Coast League in home runs (26) and runs scored (135).

Starting pitcher Albert Suarez was one of the unsung heroes for the River Cats, picking up his first win of the season and retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced. The right-hander went six innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, and one walk while striking out three. He threw a season-high 92 pitches (62 for strikes), leads the team with 31 innings pitched and leads all starters with a 2.88 ERA. The Venezuelan native came into the game with the seventh best ERA (2.37) in the PCL.

The scintillating stretch for Sacramento has seen at least one River Cats hitter come within one hit of the cycle in each of the last three games. Tonight, it was Lee who came up a triple short. The reliable shortstop now has a four-game hitting streak and is tied for the team lead in games played this season with 22.

Following close behind is Ryan Lollis, who has become a mainstay at first base for Sacramento this season. Coming into 2016, Lollis had only two starts at first base in his eight-year career yet he has 15 starts under his belt this season, only registering one error. At the dish, the veteran has been leading by example as well with a team-high 15 runs and 26 hits coming into tonight.

The River Cats will look to continue their win streak tomorrow evening as right-hander Clayton Blackburn (1-1, 4.57) will take the mound against Isotopes lefty Ryan Carpenter (1-2, 5.09). First pitch is at 5:35 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320 starting at 7 p.m.
