Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - A solo home run by New Orleans Zephyrs shortstop Robert Andino broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 10th inning, and the Zephyrs then held off the Oklahoma City Dodgers' offense in the bottom of the inning to send the Dodgers to a 3-2 loss Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
After the Zephyrs took a one-run lead with Andino's first home run of the season, the Dodgers threated to extend the game in the bottom of the 10th inning. Oklahoma City's Zach Walters, James Ramsey and Jack Murphy each drew walks from Zephyrs pitcher Dustin McGowan to load the bases with one out.
Oklahoma City's Elian Herrera then struck out for the second out. Catcher Austin Barnes followed and hit a grounder toward second base where New Orleans completed the force out to end the game.
Monday opened a four-game series between the teams, which were both playing their first game since Friday after weather forced the postponement of their games on both Saturday and Sunday.
The teams exchanged home runs in the third inning in front of a crowd of 3,116.
New Orleans' Xavier Scruggs hit a two-run homer into the OKC Dodgers' bullpen in left center field to give New Orleans a 2-0.
OKC Dodgers outfielder Corey Brown answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer that landed on the berm in right center field to cut New Orleans' lead to 2-1. He finished the game 2-for-4 to lead the Dodgers.
The Dodgers (12-10) loaded the bases in the bottom of eighth inning on three walks. Then with two outs, Herrera hit a RBI single to right field, allowing Walters to score and tie the game, 2-2. Alex Hassan tried to add the go-ahead run, but was thrown out at the plate to keep the score knotted.
Dodgers pitcher Jharel Cotton (2-2) pitched the 10th inning and was charged with the loss, allowing Andino's home run and recording two strikeouts.
New Orleans pitcher Nick Wittgren (1-0) was credited with the win, allowing two hits, one walk and recording two strikeouts over 1.1 innings. Dustin McGowan earned his first save of the season for the Zephyrs (12-11).
The Dodgers continue their series against New Orleans at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
OKC Dodgers tickets are available through the box office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive, by calling (405) 218-1000, or by ordering through okcdodgers.com.
