Iowa Cubs News Release

Nashville, TN - Arismendy Alcantara belted a two-run, go-ahead homer to lift the Iowa Cubs (10-13) over the Nashville Sounds (12-13) 2-1 Tuesday Night at First Tennessee Park. Iowa managed the victory despite being held to a season-low four hits.

Both teams were held off the board until the fifth when Matt McBride doubled and Bruce Maxwell came through with a two-out RBI single to give Nashville the first lead of the night. The 1-0 score remained until the seventh when Daniel Vogelbach led off the inning with a single and Alcantara followed by sending the first pitch he saw over the right field fence, giving the I-Cubs the permanent lead.

Ryan Williams improved to 3-1 on the season with his third consecutive victory and recorded his first quality start. Over 6.0 innings, he allowed one earned run off six hits and walked none while whiffing four batters. Spencer Patton earned his fourth save after pitching a scoreless ninth. The Iowa closer remains perfect on the season with a 0.00 ERA through 10.0 innings pitched. Nashville starter Chris Smith allowed just two runs off four hits through 7.0 innings, but was the unlucky loser and fell to 1-4 on the season.

Iowa and Nashville play again at 12:05 p.m. tomorrow at First Tennessee Park. Tune in to AM 940 to catch Randy Wehofer on the call or stream online at www.iowacubs.com.
