Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

A four-run fifth inning and three-run eighth were too for the Isotopes offense to overcome, falling on to the Sacramento River Cats 7-3 in game one of the club's eight-game homestand.

Pitching ruled for the first four innings on Monday at Isotopes Park as both teams starting pitchers were cruising until the fifth inning.

The River Cats broke the contest's scoreless drought, finally getting to Shane Carle in the top of the fifth inning, crossing the plate four times in the frame.

The Isotopes quickly answered in the bottom half of the fifth when Dustin Garneau smashed his first home run of the campaign, a two-run shot to left. The home run marked just the club's ninth on the season.

Isotopes starter Shane Carle (2-2, 7.92) would exit the game after five innings on the hill, allowing four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five with his team down 4-2.

Albuquerque native Austin House entered the game in relief of Carle in the sixth innings, delivering two scoreless fames in his Isotopes Park debut.

Offensively, Jordan Patterson was able to cut into the Sacramento lead in the sixth, delivering an RBI double to center. Unfortunately for the Isotopes, their one-run deficit would not last long, as the River Cats plated three off of Isotopes reliever Nelson Gonzalez in the eighth inning, extending their lead to 7-3.

The four-run advantage would hold Sacramento for the rest of the contest, handing Albuqueruque its fifth loss in seven games.

The Isotopes and River Cats continue their four-game set tomorrow from Isotopes Park when southpaw Ryan Carpenter (1-2, 5.09) toes the rubber for Albuquerque. He will be opposed by Sacramento's Clayton Blackburn (1-1, 4.57). First pitch from Isotopes Park is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
