Austin Barnes followed and hit a grounder toward second base where New Orleans completed a force out to end the game. The teams exchanged home runs in the third inning. Xavier Scruggs hit a two-run homer into the OKC Dodgers bullpen in left-center field for a 2-0 Zephyrs lead. Corey Brown answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer that landed on the berm in right-center field to cut New Orleans' lead to 2-1. The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of eighth inning on three walks. Dodgers pitcher Jharel Cotton (2-2) was charged with the loss. New Orleans pitcher Nick Wittgren (1-0) was credited with the win and Dustin McGowan earned his first save of the season.
