Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - A seven run comeback wasn't enough for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Monday night against the Round Rock Express. After losing a seven run lead, the Express scored two late runs off the Sky Sox bullpen to win 11-10 at Security Service Field.

The Sky Sox got off to a shaky start, as Ariel Pena (0-0, 9.45) got into early trouble to begin the night. After the first two batters of the game struck out, Jared Hoying homered to center field for the game's first run. A couple batters later, Ike Davis doubled off the right field wall to score Patrick Kivlehan to give the Express a 2-0 lead after their first turn at bat.

In the second, the Express loaded the bases with two walks and a single to start the inning, and Brent Suter came out of the bullpen for the Sky Sox. A walk increased the lead to three before Suter got two outs to keep the bases loaded. Davis then cleared the bases with another double to right. He scored when Pedro Ciriaco, the next hitter, singled to increase the Round Rock lead to seven in the second.

The Sky Sox began to claw away at the Round Rock lead in the third with a two out rally against starter Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-2, 5.00). Eric Young Jr. got the Sky Sox a run with a run scoring single then Keon Broxton scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to five.

Colorado Springs got another pair in the fourth on a single from Josmil Pinto that scored Garin Cecchini. Elmore followed with a single of his own to score Michael Reed to cut the deficit to three.

After the Express scored a run off Suter in the fifth, the Sky Sox again rallied for a pair of runs. Will Middlebrooks and Reed both earned a run batted in during the frame with grounds outs that scored runs to cut the lead down to a pair.

In the seventh, the Sky Sox were able to turn the score in their favor. Middlebrooks and Cecchini started the inning with hits to put runners on the corners. Reed scored Middlebrooks with a fielders choice ground out. Elmore tied the game with a two-out single to center that scored Reed. Broxton then singled to center to plate Elmore and give the Sky Sox a 10-9 lead.

The Express tied the game off Jim Miller and Damien Magnifico (0-3, 3.00) in the eighth on a Davis single that scored the tying run.

Round Rock scored the lead in the ninth off Magnifico on a squeeze bunt from Ryan Strausborger that scored Drew Robinson.

Carlos Fisher pitched the final inning and a third for Round Rock to earn the win, his third of the season.

Davis finished the game with three hits and five runs batted in to lead the Express.

For the Sky Sox, everyone in the lineup recorded either a hit or an RBI. Six Sky Sox had multiple hit games.

In the second game of the series tomorrow night, Taylor Jungmann (NR) will make his first start of the season for the Sky Sox. The Express are scheduled to start right-hander Nick Martinez (1-1, 3.68).
