Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Round Rock Express jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 11-3 on Tuesday night in front of 3,639 at Security Service Field.

Taylor Jungmann (0-1, 15.75) got into some early trouble for the Sky Sox. James Jones led off the game with a triple off the wall for Round Rock, and he scored when Jurickson Profar grounded out to second. Michael McKenry added a two-run double a few batters later. Drew Robinson capped the first inning scoring with a single that scored McKenry to give the visitors an early 4-0 lead.

The Sky Sox were also quick to get on the board. Keon Broxton led off the Sky Sox half of the first by launching a home run, his third of the season, over the right field wall to get the Sky Sox on the board. That was the Sky Sox first ever leadoff home run against the Express.

Jared Hoying added to the Round Rock lead in the second with an RBI double. McKenry increased the lead with a two-run double in the fourth to give the Express a 7-1 lead.

Jungmann was replaced by reliever Brooks Hall in the fifth. In his first Sky Sox appearance of 2016, Jungmann allowed seven runs and nine hits while striking out four in four innings pitched.

Former Sky Sox infielder Doug Bernier went deep for the Express in the fifth to increase his team's lead to 8-1. The homer was Bernier's fist at Security Service Field since August 11, 2008 when he played for the Sky Sox.

Eric Young Jr. singled home a run in the fifth to get the Sky Sox closer, but a double play ground ball prevented the Sky Sox from closing the gap.

Round Rock starter Nick Martinez (2-1, 3.66) pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits to earn his second win of the season.

Leading off the bottom of the sixth, Andy Wilkins hit a home run, his second of the season, to right-center to cut the Round Rock lead to 8-3. But that was all the Express pitching staff gave up, as the bullpen pitched the final four innings to finish the win.

For the Sky Sox, Brooks Hall came out of the bullpen in the fifth and pitched three and a third relief innings, allowing one run before Jim Miller entered. Miller pitched the final inning and two thirds for the Sky Sox, and the Express were able to extend their lead to 11-3 off him in the ninth on a home run from Drew Robinson.

Making his first Sky Sox start at home, second baseman Nate Orf recorded his first Triple-A hit with a single to right in the seventh.

The Sky Sox will send Jorge Lopez (0-1, 8.79) to the mound for game three of the series tomorrow morning. He will be opposed by Round Rock righty Nick Tepesch (1-2, 3.68). First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. MDT at Security Service Field.
