Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jake Goebbert and Shane Peterson knocked in solo home runs, but the River Cats dropped their second game in a row to the Tucson Padres by a score of 7-6 on Tuesday night at Raley Field.

Tucson took the early lead, scoring three runs off two hits in the first inning, but the River Cats responded with three runs of their own. A sacrifice fly by Michael Taylor and an Anthony Aliotti single tied the game up, 3-3. Sacramento took a short lead in the third inning when Nakajima singled to left field.

Tucson answered with two runs in both the fourth and the fifth innings and the T-Pads downed the River Cats 7-6. Sacramento scored once in the bottom of the sixth on Goebbert's solo home run and again in the bottom of the ninth off Peterson's homer.

Michael Choice and Anthony Aliotti finished 2-for-5, with Aliotti earning two RBI, and Goebbert hit his second home run of the season as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the River Cats loss. Daric Barton, Hiro Nakajima, and Ryan Ortiz all recorded hits for Sacramento, as well.

River Cats starter, Bruce Billings, gave up seven earned runs off 10 hits, while striking out four and walking four in four innings of work to earn his sixth loss of the season. Relievers Chris Resop and Pedro Figueroa combined for three scoreless innings and four strikeouts.

Tucson reliever earned the win for the T-Pads, as he struck out one and gave up one earned run off two hits in his two-inning appearance. Miles Mikolas earned his 24th save of the season.

The loss, combined with the Las Vegas' 51s 6-3 win over Salt Lake City, dropped Sacramento into second place in the PCL. The 51s hold the tiebreaker with 13 games left in the regular season.

Sacramento travels to Colorado Springs to take on the Sky Sox in a five-game series that starts at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday night. Travis Banwart (9-5, 4.47 ERA) is on the mound for the River Cats, as he faces Colorado lefty Nick Schmidt (4-3, 4.54 ERA) in game one.

The River Cats are back at Raley Field at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, for their final home series of the regular season. They take on the Fresno Grizzlies for the Highway Showdown for a four-game series that ends with Fan Appreciation Day on Aug. 29.
