Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Memphis, TN - Nick Additon spun seven scoreless innings and combined with two relievers on a three-hitter as Memphis blanked Omaha, 4-0, Tuesday night in the last of a pivotal five-game series at AutoZone Park. The Storm Chasers dropped the last two games of the set after taking the first three and head into the final 13 games of the regular season with a three-game lead over the Redbirds in the American Conference North Division. Memphis claimed the season series, 9-7, which would be the deciding factor should the two teams wind up in a tie for the division lead after 144 games, and will finish the season on the road with series at Iowa, New Orleans and Oklahoma City.
Omaha starter John Lamb retired the first two hitters he faced before Brock Peterson and Jamie Romak singled and scored on a double by Chad Huffman, who had been 3-for-27 against Storm Chasers pitching, that put the hosts in front to stay. The southpaw settled down and kept the Redbirds hitless until Travis Tartamella led off the fifth with a double, moved to third base on a Mike O'Neill single and scored to make it a 3-0 game when Ryan Jackson grounded into a double play.
Lamb departed his second Triple-A start after six innings during which he yielded three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out a pair. Buddy Baumann took over in the seventh and was aided by Anthony Seratelli, who threw out Vance Albitz at the plate as he was trying to score from second base on Jackson's two-out single. Everett Teaford assumed the hill in the eighth and gave up a solo home run to Romak, the former Storm Chaser who clubbed his first long ball since July 24, that finished the scoring.
Additon earned his ninth win after he allowed only two hits, walked two, struck out seven and did not permit a runner to advance past first base in extending his scoreless innings streak to 14 over two starts this season against the Storm Chasers. Keith Butler worked the eighth inning and Sam Freeman retired the side in order in the ninth to finish the game and his 11th hitless and scoreless frame against Omaha this year.
Omaha will send left-hander Danny Duffy to the mound in Wednesday's series opener against New Orleans right-hander Jared Rogers. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
