Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Taijuan Walker turned in five scoreless innings and Abraham Almonte and Joe Dunigan each homered as the Tacoma Rainiers topped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3-1 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday.
Walker limited the Sky Sox to three hits, four walks and struck out six on the way to collecting his fourth win in his 10th start with the Rainiers this season.
The relief corps of Brian Moran (2.1 IP), Josh Kinney (0.2 IP) and Bobby LaFromboise (1.0 IP) combined to hold the Sky Sox to one run on four hits and struck out six over four innings of work out of the bullpen. LaFromboise picked up his fourth save after tallying the game's final three outs.
Abraham Almonte was responsible for providing the bulk of the Rainiers run support. The outfielder hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the third - his ninth homer with Tacoma this season - that gave the Rainiers a 2-0 advantage.
Joe Dunigan stretched the Rainiers lead to 3-0 after belting a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth. The outfielder has now hit three home runs over his first 18 games with Tacoma this season.
The Rainiers lineup combined to collect seven hits in the team's season finale against Colorado Springs. Dunigan ended the night going 2-for-3 including his homer, and catcher Jesus Sucre went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
The Rainiers (70-61) begin the team's final road trip of the season when they open a five-game series at the Tucson Padres tomorrow, August 20th. Right-hander Blake Beavan (4-5, 5.75) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Padres right-hander Anthony Bass (3-6, 5.93). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
