Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers earned the team's third walk-off win over their last four games after topping the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 1-0 in extra innings at Cheney Stadium on Monday.
The game was scoreless until Tacoma tallied the night's only run with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Abraham Almonte and Ty Kelly drew walks and Nate Tenbrink lined a single over three consecutive at-bats to load the bases for Carlos Peguero. The outfielder hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Almonte to score the go-ahead run from third.
Pitching dominated throughout, beginning with six scoreless innings delivered by Rainiers starter Hector Noesi. The right-hander limited the Sky Sox to one hit and two walks and struck out seven in his ninth turn in the Rainiers rotation this season.
The relief staff picked up where Noesi left off and combined to hold Colorado Springs to three hits over the next five frames. Jonathan Arias (1.2), Bobby LaFromboise (0.2) and Logan Bawcom (1.2) collectively tossed four shutout innings before Forrest Snow worked a perfect frame in the 11th to earn the win.
The star of the night on offense for Tacoma was outfielder Abraham Almonte, who collected three of the Rainiers five hits after going 3-for-5 and scoring the go-ahead run.
The Rainiers (69-61) host the fifth and final game of a five-game series with Colorado Springs (62-65) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, August 20. Mariners top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker (3-3, 4.27) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against left-hander Nick Schmidt (4-3, 4.54).
